AIR CANADA

AIR CANADA FIRST NORTH AMERICAN AIRLINE TO RELEASE BLACKBERRY APPLICATION OFFERING MORE AND MORE CUSTOMERS INCREASED REAL-TIME MOBILE OPTIONS

MONTRÉAL, October 15, 2009 – Air Canada became today the first North American airline to release a free BlackBerry® application providing travellers with BlackBerry devices convenient and easy real-time access to a wide-range of flight information including; retrieving electronic boarding passes, tracking flight information in real-time, receiving notification of itinerary changes and obtaining other details about Air Canada flights.

“With the release of our new Blackberry App, Air Canada continues to be an industry leader now offering more and more customers innovative mobile and wireless services that provide real-time information and convenient functions tailored for people on the move. This Blackberry App significantly expands these options enabling travellers to check-in, board and obtain other details about Air Canada flights,” said Ben Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. “In addition, we have revamped our mobile portal http://mobile.aircanada.com to mirror the features of the Air Canada BlackBerry App. This is another step in introducing more cutting-edge technical innovations that will enhance and simplify our self-service and mobile options for customers who like the freedom of managing their own travel. We will continue to add new features in response to customer demand.”

Available free on-line from BlackBerry App World™ (www.blackberry.com/appworld) or on Air Canada’s mobile site (http://mobile.aircanada.com) the new application was developed for Air Canada by IBM Canada. It will among other things enable users to: keep track of and update all of their Air Canada and Jazz flights from a single location; receive messages and link to their electronic boarding passes; access Air Canada Mobile check-in to select a seat and retrieve an electronic boarding pass; book flights using an Air Canada Flight Pass; rent a car or access other convenient travel links; and find and track any Air Canada or Jazz flight; subscribe to flight notification informing them of flight delays.

Air Canada, recognized as an industry leader in self-service and mobile technology – it was the first airline in the world to introduce 2-D Electronic Boarding Passes in 2007 – is also refining and expanding its existing products to better meet the needs of customers. Among other things Air Canada is:

  • Adding new functions to airport kiosks, offering customers the option to purchase an upgrade, reprint boarding passes, and obtain an electronic boarding pass, including at international airports
  • Enhancing its boarding passes to provide more and new travel information such as check-in and baggage drop-off times
  • Offering easy-to-use, personalized flight notification so customers can be automatically updated through their mobile devices about changes to their itinerary. For greater ease, customers can receive all Air Canada wireless communications in a single, convenient easy to access location called “My Message” in-box on computers and mobile devices
  • Providing additional mobile detail about the status of Air Canada flights, including gate information, flight status, diversions, arrivals and local weather conditions

Molson Pub cracks a cold one at EIA - Full-service bar & restaurant now open in US Passenger Lounge

(October 6, 2009) Edmonton, Alta.—Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is pleased to welcome another full-service bar and restaurant to the growing array of food and beverage options available to airport customers. EIA passengers can now enjoy the atmosphere and menu of Molson Pub, opening today in the US Passenger Lounge.

“Molson Pub is a great addition to the changing face of the US Passenger Lounge,” says Reg Milley, EIA President and CEO. “With the recent opening of the temporary Terminal Express, which helps pave the way towards Expansion 2012, maintaining our customer service standards is very important. Molson Pub’s outstanding food and beverage offerings are part of our overall plan to improve the passenger experience at EIA.”

In addition to pub-style food, Molson Pub serves breakfast, salads and entrees along with a “grab and go” offering. Opening daily at 5 a.m. and closing after the last flight of the day, the pub seats 51 and is managed by HMS Host.

The next phase of EIA’s concessions program in the US Passenger Lounge will be the removal of the Toast outlet, which begins today. The space will be renovated and returned for additional departure lounge seating. This process will be fast tracked to ensure the disruption to passengers is limited.

EIA now has scheduled service to 11 US non-stop destinations: Chicago, Denver, Houston (starting Nov. 1), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and WestJet just announced seasonal service to Maui for spring 2010. From 2002 to 2008, EIA’s US passenger traffic has grown by 140 per cent making it one of the airport’s fastest-growing market segments. For more information, visit www.flyeia.com/USA.

AVIS

Introducing Their Non-Smoking Fleet

Avis is constantly looking for ways to make renting a more enjoyable and satisfying experience. And beginning next month they're adding a new one: a 100% smoke-free fleet.

The new smoke-free fleet policy will go into effect as of October 1st for their entire fleet. Every make. Every model. You'll find a sticker on every vehicle to identify it as smoke-free.

Avis is excited about this change because it means a fresh, clean, odor-free vehicle every time you rent from us. In fact, They have created a new inspection process and cleaning fee (up to $250 if the vehicle is returned and it smells of smoke) just to guarantee that your vehicle really is clean and smoke-free.

A smoke-free fleet. It's coming this fall. It's not only more enjoyable — it's a breath of fresh air from Avis.

Adapters, Transformers & Converters

People are always needing power adaptors, converters, and transformers for foreign travel. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of bad information out there and people lacking the experience and knowledge in this department, resulting in damaged merchandise and your dollars lost! Here are the basics of what you need to know when planning this sort of purchase.

  • Have with you a list of all the appliances and /or electronics you are taking with you. Really think about what you want to take and what is a necessity.
  • Are your items dual voltage? What this means is in North America, we work on 110 volts, most places abroad are 220 volts; some adapt to both 110 and 220. Once it is determined what voltage your appliance is, we can assist you with what exactly you will need to take with you. If your item is dual voltage, an adaptor plug is all you will need. If not, you will need either the converter or transformer.
  • An adaptor plug is almost always needed. All that an adaptor plug does is allow you to plug in your appliance to the foreign outlet. It does not convert any voltage for you.
  • Depending on whether your item is Electric, or an Electronic, will determine the need for either a converter or transformer. Heating items generally require a converter, whereas items with a micro chip require a transformer. For example, you will need a Converter for a hairdryer, clothing iron, curling iron, etc. Not included in this list is a flat iron.
  • Flat irons are the exception to the rule. There are many styles and grades of irons. There are the conventional ones that you can buy in just about any department store and then there are the higher end models found in most salons. If the iron is dual voltage and non-ceramic, it can be used in foreign countries with a grounded adaptor plug. If the iron is ceramic, regardless of voltage, it cannot be used overseas. One can purchase a flat iron designed specifically for travel.
  • Items needing a Transformer are, for example, battery chargers, electric shavers, non-dual voltage lap tops, and electric toothbrush, etc. The size of the Transformer that you will need will depend on how many watts your items is. Transformers come in different sizes and it makes no sense to carry a 10lb transformer, when you only need one that weighs 2lb.
  • Check out our selection of adaptors, converters, transformers, flat irons and other travel friendly items at www.ShopGEO.com.
