I plan on coming home for my HLTA, how do I book my trip?
   • When you have you block number approved you will fill out a HLTA Travel Request form, the completed form will then be forward thru your Chain of Command to CFPFSS who ill forward it to UNIGLOBE Geo Travel for the booking of flights. UNIGLOBE Geo will then email the CFPFSS Travel Office in theater your proposed travel itinerary for approval. Once approved tickets will be issued.

I want to visit my friend in Edmonton. My home is in Petawawa, is this considered 1st or 3rd location travel?
   • 3rd location travel is considered to be travel to any destination that is located 800 km or more from either your home of previous place of duty. In this case Edmonton is more than 800 km from Petawawa and therefore would qualify as 3rd location travel. However at no time during the vacation are you permitted to visit Petawawa or travel within 800 kms of your home.

I plan on going to a third location for my HLTA leave. Are there any restrictions on where I can go?
   • There are some countries that the CF will not allow you to travel to. You should check with either Military Police or Intelligence personnel of you unit for the most up-to-date list of these countries.
   • Many countries require Canadians to obtain a tourist visa before leaving Canada for visits of less than three months. While some countries will issue Canadians a tourist visa, tourist card or entry stamp upon arrival. A list of countries requiring visas can be obtained by either calling UNIGLOBE Geo Travel or by visiting the Canadian Government web site www.voyage.gc.ca

What will my third location HLTA allowance amount cover?
The HLTA third location allowance amount will pay all transportation only portions of your travel, up to the approved amount. Examples of transportation costs are:
      • Economy class airfare;
      • Economy car rental including basic insurance required by law in the location where the vehicle is rented and gas ;
      • Rail or Bus passes;
      • The third location HLTA amount will also pay 50% (up to the approved amount), of a package Cruise, Safari or Tour, if the Cruise, Safari or Tour includes meals, beverages or accommodations.
Keep all receipts in order to be reimbursed.

I plan on traveling with my boy/girl friend. Will their travel expenses be covered by my HLTA allotment?
   • No. Girlfriend/ boyfriend or fiancé(e) are not considered approved NOK in acccordance with the NDHQ (DCBA) HLTA policy. For example if you are married your NOK would be your Legal spouse which includes common-law as determined by the CO and documented. If you are single, your NOK is your mother or Father and if they are deceased one of your siblings would be considered NOK.

I plan on traveling with parents; will their travel expenses be covered by my HLTA allotment?
   • If you are single one of your parents would be covered by your HLTA third location allowance as they would qualify as your NOK within the HLTA policy.

Can I book my third location trip prior to my deployment?
   • Yes it is highly recommended if you have an approved block number prior to departing Canada. Simply contact UNIGLOBE Geo Travel at 1-800-661-2454 (extension 4) to speak with one of our military travel specialist who will be happy to assist you in finalizing your travel arrangements.

I’ve found a travel package on the Internet; can UNIGLOBE Geo Travel book it for me?
   • UNIGLOBE Geo has assisted personnel with making Internet booking in the past, and will continue do so. But we must be assured that a reputable supplier is offering the product. If UNIGLOBE Geo believes that there is a risk to the member that the product will not be delivered as promised, we may not be able to assist you. However, in those cases we will strive to find a similar product offered by another supplier.

I could not book my HLTA while I was in Canada, who do I see when I’m in theater?
   • You can visit one of the CFPFSS Travel Offices in theater and they will then contact us on your behalf. Additionally, we accept email inquiries at Travel@Geo.ca
When an email inquiry is received we'll reply to both the member and to the CFPFSS Travel Coordinators. Inquiries can also be accepted from the NOK/Travel companion on the member's behalf.

I want to rent a car while on HLTA leave; can I do so?
Yes you can but there are a number of restriction with car rentals;
      • You must be 21 years of age or older and in many countries the minimum age for a car rental is 25 or older
      • You must be in possession of a valid credit card in your name
      • You card must have sufficient credit available on it, at time of rental, for authorization of the rental car deductible. The amount of the deductible is depending upon the country of rental and can range anywhere from $250.00 to $2500.00 or more.

How will I receive my travel documents?
   • All travel documents are sent weekly to the CFPFSS travel offices in theatre. They are held there till you DAG for your HLTA leave. Travel companion or NOK travel documents are sent to the address that you supplied.
